It seems that ever since Beyonce’s iconic Super Bowl performance, she has been one of the most beloved celebrities and entertainers in the world. From her surprise album release back in 2013, to her recent performance as Nala in the live action rendition of The Lion King, she is an undeniable powerhouse in music and entertainment.

On July 31, 2020, Beyonce continued her reign by releasing a short film exclusively to Disney+, which acts as a timely homage to not only her album “The Gift,” but also black culture. The film is star-studded with black artists including Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland, and Naomi Campbell. It comes across as a study of black culture and its evolution over time, and it is nothing short of beautiful cinematically. Beyonce has always taken great pride in visuals, and has previously mentioned that she often sees music in that way, rather than solely through sound.

Black is King can be streamed through Disney+ now, and to hear more, be sure to listen to Episode #19 of The Latin Babbler Show.
