Her older brother had a passion for martial arts and encouraged her to try the sport. She initially competed in able-bodied judo, but her coach encouraged her to switch to Para judo since she has an eye condition that causes her weak eyesight. She has won a gold medal at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
